چکیده

In Information Systems (IS) research, there is a wide range of research methods available. Yet the selection of a suitable research method remains a problem. March and Smith (1995) proposed a classification of research methods. Instead of their great merits, for example, differentiation between design science and natural science, we would here like to supplement them with some important amendments like mathematical approaches, theoretical studies and the dissensus and consensus views. In particular, we demonstrate how to select a suitable research approach in light of the research question.

The Global Evidence Mapping Initiative: Scoping research in broad topic areas

BACKGROUND Evidence mapping describes the quantity, design and characteristics of research in broad topic areas, in contrast to systematic reviews, which usually address narrowly-focused research questions. The breadth of evidence mapping helps to identify evidence gaps, and may guide future research efforts. The Global Evidence Mapping (GEM) Initiative was established in 2007 to create evidenc...

5W+1H pattern: A perspective of systematic mapping studies and a case study on cloud software testing

A common type of study used by researchers to map out the landscape of a research topic is known as mapping study. Such a study typically begins with an exploratory search on the possible ideas of the research topic, which is often done in an unsystematic manner. Hence, the activity of formulating research questions in mapping studies is ill-defined, rendering it difficult for researchers who a...

Sustainability of evidence-based healthcare: research agenda, methodological advances, and infrastructure support

BACKGROUND Little is known about how well or under what conditions health innovations are sustained and their gains maintained once they are put into practice. Implementation science typically focuses on uptake by early adopters of one healthcare innovation at a time. The later-stage challenges of scaling up and sustaining evidence-supported interventions receive too little attention. This proj...

Analysis of ab initio Gene Predictions of Drosophila erecta

Introduction It is part of human nature to want to understand the complex biological processes that make life possible. With each advance in biological research that answers questions, many more questions arise. A major milestone in the quest to understand life was the completion of the Human Genome Project in 2003. With the full genome in hand, the next round of questions involve trying to fin...

Modeling the Network of Municipal Solid Waste Separation Factors using Fuzzy Cognitive Mapping: A Case Study in Tehran

Municipal solid waste management is a major challenge, especially in metropolises. This research focuses on a non-technical issue in municipal solid waste management named municipal solid waste separation at the source and seeks to find the best policy in terms of model results. Source separation for recycling has been recognized as a way to achieve sustainable municipal solid waste (MSW) manag...
